MOUNTAIN M EADOW, IN THE SADDLE
TOM: How often do you see Chloe?
HUNTER: Every other Christmas, birthday and spring break, and the last few weeks of her summer.
TOM: You and Barbara on good terms?
HUNTER: We are.
TOM: Are her parents living?
HUNTER: Yes, John and Jan are retired attorneys in Paso Robles.
TOM: Well that ain't too far from San Luis Obispo.
HUNTER: Half hour drive, and there's a train.
TOM: In good health?
HUNTER: Yes. They were athletes and college and swim and walk regularly. How about you and Wanda?
TOM: We walk around the block in the mornin' and evenin' and square dance Thursdays.
HUNTER: Can we revisit you meeting in A-A.
TOM: Yessir.
HUNTER: First sight.
TOM: Yessir. In line for cofffee.
HUNTER: How's the drinking these days?
TOM: We'll have a beer with a movie Saturday nights and a glass of wine with Ruth when we're down. Pretty much been that way since we met.
HUNTER: Wanda had a daughter from a previous marriage
TOM: Yessir. Rebecca. Drowned in a lake at summer camp whe she was eleven. Foglost has a little to do with drinkin'.
HUNTER: I had a problem. Not that you asked.
TOM: Was wonderin'.
HUNTER: You've read Foglost.
TOM: Readin' it. Forgot it on my nightstand.
HUNTER: Where are you in it?
TOM: Bob's just bought the boat. Drinkin' not a problem anymore?
HUNTER: Not a problem anymore. I have a beer at night on the patio and wine with dinner on occasion.
TOM: Ya look like ya use your gym room.
HUNTER: Have to keep up with Chloe.
