31

Previous.

31. John and Jan at home, day.

On the patio. Grill. Big-screen TV.  Dog, grill, trees that partially shade the kidney pool.

They’re seated across from each other, attention on laptops. Jan types away. John a few times before:

JOHN: Gottem.

JAN: Gottem?

JOHN: Thomas and Wanda Walker, _______  Avenue, Laramie.  There’s a street view.

He turns the laptop to her.  She stares at Tom and Wanda’s house. Patch of snow in the front yard.  She maneuvers up and down the street, returns to house, finally returns John’s laptop. John turns his attention to the streetview.

JAN: They’re moving to Texas.

JOHN: How do we know that?

JAN: Chloe called Barb last night.

JOHN: I was wondering.

JAN: She’s going to tell us more tomorrow.

JOHN: Alright.

JAN: Brian’s father is reading Foglost.

JOHN: Do we know if he knows of the six degrees?

JAN: We know that Brian does and that Brian’s father does not. Nervous about golf?

JOHN: Was. Until a cowboy rode into town.

OVER JOHN’S SHOULDER we see him pull up the selfie sent to Barbara. Jan stares at John staring at his screen.

Tells Jan the Roy Rogers boots for Christmas story she’d never heard.

Her Berkeley Days Go-Go boots story, news to John.
